Luma Ray 3.2 vs Kling 3.0 for Image-to-Video: Watch the Billing Unit
Both land near $0.10-0.14 a second, but Luma bills in five-second blocks. What that does to a three-second clip, and where each model is the better pick.
A comparison where the pricing structure matters more than the per-second headline, because one of these two does not bill per second at all.

The block billing is the thing to internalise. A three-second clip on Luma costs a full block — $0.50 — where Kling 2.6 Pro charges $0.21 for the same three seconds. A clean five-second clip is $0.50 on Luma against $0.35 on Kling 2.6 and $0.70 on Kling 3.0.
And a six-second clip on Luma is two blocks: $1.00.
What that means in practice
Compose to the block. If you use Luma, make clips exactly five or ten seconds. A six-second cut costs the same as ten, so either trim to five or use the ten you paid for.
Short clips favour per-second models. Our house guidance is five to eight seconds per generation because that is where identity holds — which sits awkwardly across Luma's block boundary at six, seven and eight seconds. For an eight-second clip Luma charges $1.00 against Kling 3.0's $1.12, so they converge; at three seconds they do not.
Where each is stronger
Kling 3.0 Pro — human faces and motion, native audio in the same call, and a family that covers the adjacent jobs: Motion Control for copying movement, AI Avatar for talking heads, O3 Reference for character consistency. If your pipeline touches more than one of those, the operational consistency is worth real money.
Luma Ray 3.2 — a distinct aesthetic and strong camera motion. Different look rather than strictly better or worse, and for stylised, camera-driven shots it produces things Kling does not.
Kling 2.6 Pro at $0.07 — the one most people overlook. For anything without a human face, half the price of 3.0 Pro and hard to distinguish in the output.

The general lesson
Two models can advertise the same per-second rate and cost twice as much for your actual clip length. Before comparing headline prices, check the billing unit — per output second, per block, or per compute second. The last of those is the one to avoid entirely if you ever need to quote a price before the job runs.
